Foil Fencing for Youth (Level 1)


Youth are introduced to the martial art and sport of foil fencing. Swordplay has been a martial art for centuries and is today the modern sport of fencing. Fencing is fun, mentally challenging and great exercise for kids. This six week, introductory class in foil fencing will teach kids the basic skills of fencing: safety, basic footwork, blade work, and essential rules of play for bouting. All fencing equipment will be provided for the course. What youth should wear: wear pants covering legs (jeans, wind pants, sweats are fine. lycra, tights or yoga pants are too thin), wear athletic shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). A water bottle is recommended.


Fencing for Youth (Level 2)


 


This six week Level 2 class is designed to improve kids skills and reinforce basic skills of foil, epee or saber fencing including: low-line and circular parries, phrasing, preparations on the blade, next level footwork, and bouting strategies. In this class, youth are taught the martial art and sport of foil fencing. Swordplay has been a martial art for centuries and is today the modern sport of fencing. Fencing is fun, mentally challenging and great exercise for kids.


Fencers must have taken at least two fencing classes or more at the HSCC, or have evident fencing experience from another fencing program to be eligible to join this class.


 


All fencing equipment will be provided for the course if necessary. Having your own equipment is also welcome if it conforms to modern safety standards. What youth should wear: wear pants covering legs (jeans, wind pants, sweats are fine. lycra, tights or yoga pants are too thin), wear athletic shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). A water bottle is recommended.
